I.S.O. Ratings ISO uses a manual called the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule to review the fire-fighting capabilities of individual communities. The schedule measures the major elements of a community's fire-suppression system and develops a numerical grading called a Public Protection Classification. Virtually all U.S. insurers of homes and business property use ISO's Public Protection Classification in calculating premiums. In general, the price of fire insurance in a community with a good PPC is substantially lower than in a community with a poor PPC, assuming all other factors are equal. ISO's Public Protection Classification Service gauges the capacity of the local fire department to respond to a fire at the property. ISO collects information on a community's public fire protection and analyzes the data using our Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). ISO then assigns a Public Protection Classification rating from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria. The ISO rating for structures in the Hoodland Fire District is a "split rate", IE. one rate for the Brightwood, Wemme, Welches, Zig Zag, Rhododendron areas and a different rate for the Government Camp area of the Hoodland Fire District. Sandy, Marmot, Brightwood, Wemme, Welches, Zig Zag, Rhododendron Rated as a 5 or 9 for residential Government Camp Rated as a 7 for residential
