Our Mission

Hoodland Fire District is dedicated to respond
and provide quality fire and life safety protection
to our community.

Our Motto

Duty - Honor - Community

Established as a special district by Clackamas County Commisioners in September of 1966, Hoodland Fire District #74 covers 45 sq. miles of rugged foothills southwest of Mt Hood, along Highway 26, between Sandy and Government Camp, in historic East Clackamas County.

We proudly protect the rural communities of Marmot, Cherryville, Brightwood, Wemme, Welches, Zig Zag, Rhododendron and Government Camp from our 3 fire stations. Last year, we responded to 700 emergency calls for assistance from our 6000 full time and 15,000 seasonal residents.

The Fire District is overseen by a Fire Board that consists of five residents or property owners who are elected by the public. These Board of Directors serve four-year, staggered terms. The Board, establishes fire district policy through the passage of resolutions and ordinances. The Board also adopts the fire district budget, approves appropriations and levies taxes.

Hoodland Fire District # 74 is a combination department, meaning that we are comprised of both career and volunteer staff. Our career staff man our Main Station in Welches at 6:30am and provide coverage until 6:30 pm, 7 days a week, after that, all calls for assistance are responded to by our highly trained and qualified volunteer firefighters and officers. If you'd like more information about volunteering with Hoodland Fire District, please click the "Vol. Opportunites" button at the top of this page.

Although we are trained and eqiupped to provide advanced life support first response, we do not have an ambulance or transport patients to the hosptital, a private company, American Medical Response provides advanced life support transport/ambulance services to all areas of Hoodland fire District.

The Fire District is a special district that is funded through property taxes, currently $2.6385/$1000 assessed value. The 2009-2010 budget ($2,712,000 total resources) continues to be a "tightening of belts" and working on a "real need" and not a "want" plan. Out proposed financial policies for the 2009-2010 are:

- Fund the daily operations of the Fire District at the established levels of service.

- Maintain and safeguard the value and condition of the Fire Districts facilites, apparatus, and equipment. Provide training and education to the volunteers and careers staff to ensure enthusiastic inspired, creative, dedicated, healthy, long lasting employees.

- Purchase certain fire and rescue related tools and equipment, which will maintain our ability to render quality services to our community now and with an eye to the future.

- Maintain a general operating contingency that is adequet for emergencies.
