RESIDENTIAL BURNING PERMIT

A residential burn permit is no longer needed to burn appropriate materials in piles of no larger than 5 ft. around and 3 ft. tall.
These fires are still subject to the following rules and regulations, in accordance with burning and air pollution regulations.
1.) EACH DAY, obtain verification that burning is allowed by calling (503) 622-3463 after 8:30am.
2.) Fires shall not be started within 10 feet of any property line, building or fence, or combustible growth.
3.) Burning of uncut grass, brush, or any vegetation is prohibited.
4.) Adequate provision shall be made to prevent fire from spreading, such as maintenance of a fire trail around the burn area, and having such items as a charged hose or shovels present.
5.) No Burning After Dusk. Burning after dusk requires special fire department permission and pre-inspection of the burn pile. See below.
6.) Fires shall be constantly attended by a competent person until the fire is completely extinguished.
7.) The burning of materials such as rubber, plastics, paint, tar, asphalt shingles, or any other synthetic material is strictly forbidden.
8.) The person burning agrees to abide by the above regulations and to extinguish any fire when directed to by any member of the fire department or police department.
It must be understood that following the above rules in no way relieves the person burning of any liability or responsibility for any damages caused by unsafe burning. Failure to comply with these regulations is a misdemeanor under section 960, Chapter 478, Oregon Revised Statues.
AGRICULTURAL BURNING PERMITS
Burn piles larger than 5 foot around and 3 ft. tall or fires that will remain burning after dusk, require pre-inspection and issuance of a permit.
Please stop in or call before 4 pm to arrange an inspection of your agricultural burn piles.
